Shelby School District recently received six old photographs from Shelby's past. We would like to identify years (or estimated years) and any of the people in the photographs. Mrs. Fix and Mrs. Hoover partnered up with our librarian Mrs. Reynolds to have the students find their favorite book for March Book Madness. They were exposed to different styles of writing, genres, purposes and authors. After the tournament of books, the students wrote a letter to the author letting him/her know why they loved their book the most. The students and teachers loved it so much that they plan to make this an annual event!
Mrs. White's 6th Grade Geography classes have been studying Asia. Since one of her students studies Shotokan, a style of karate developed from various martial arts from Okinawa, Japan, they had a kinesthetic introductory lesson with Bridger leading the session outside. After Bridger's slide show and lesson, students were able to get a snapshot of a well known martial art recognized in Japan.

The month of March was spent doing "Book Madness" in Mrs. Fix's class. They started with 16 books. The winning book was After the Fall, How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again.
Fourth graders completed their Winter Counts (written communication used by some Montana tribes to document important events).

These 2nd graders started their Plant unit today. Mr. Lee brought over his Jr. High class to help the students learn about seeds, examine seeds under a magnifying glass, and document their findings. They also are starting an experiment where they hung up a baggie in the window with a wet paper towel and a pumpkin seed in it to see what will happen. This should be a fun month of learning!!
