Independence Bank gave our 3rd graders a lesson on saving money. They were given $75 to buy a puppy and supplies. The presenters discussed the differences between needs and wants, and the students filled out a sheet to decide what they “need” for their puppy and what they might “want” for their puppy. The kids were given a price list for each of the items, and the students subtracted each item that they believed their puppy might need. Some of the students spent way more money than they budgeted for! This taught us all the importance of basic financing. Thank you, Independence Bank!!

Following an application and interview process, Shelby High School students are able to spend one class period a day working as paraprofessionals in the elementary. One of the HS paras, Dylan Clark, works with Ms. Wiederrick's class and is a fantastic, positive role model for younger students.
