Biologist Scott Bieler from Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks came to the 5th-grade science classes and talked about identifying the many fish species in Montana. Scott also talked about the classification process and the effects of introducing fish into ecosystems they are not native to. Scott also talked about how this relates to future professions in the life science field.
Kathy Ketcham came to the 5th-grade classroom to continue our education on ecosystems, habitats, species, predators, and non-native species, specifically about fish in Montana, and learned about Gyotaku, the art of fish printing. At the end of the lesson, the students worked with Kathy and made Gyotaku.

Fourth graders went to the Missouri River Interpretive Center in Fort Benton. We learned about the steamship era, walked across the Missouri River, and had lunch on the banks of the river before heading home.

On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, Jason DeShaw will be presenting his Serenity in the Storm Tour to our students in grades 6-12 in the Shelby High School Auditorium.
Jason DeShaw is a cowboy, born and raised in Montana. He is a national award-winning speaker and singer/songwriter. He has recorded six albums, toured seven countries, and sang at just about every county fair. Behind the scenes, Jason nearly lost his life to mental illness and addiction and is living proof that hope is worth believing in.
Serenity in the Storm is Jason DeShaw’s presentation – A story of hope, set to the soundtrack of his life. His journey to help others has taken him to schools, communities, and psychiatric hospitals across the nation, as well as sharing the merits of compassion with professionals in law enforcement and medicine. He received the Champions Award in Washington D.C. for “exhibiting courage, leadership, and service on behalf of all people living with mental illness.”
Jason most recently presented his story to our students here in Shelby back in 2016. We are excited to have him back in our community to share his story with another generation of Shelby Students.
