The Shelby Coyote Cross Country team continued its early-season progress Saturday at the Piikunii Pass Invite in Browning, highlighted by substantial improvements from seniors Aeris Stewart and Thomas Knickerbocker and an impressive debut from junior Corin Scarborough.
Stewart finished sixth overall in 20:53.49, cutting more than two minutes from her 23:18.2 performance at Shelby’s home meet.
Knickerbocker also made a major jump, finishing 15th overall in 19:04.34. His performance represented an improvement of more than a minute and a half from the 20:36.4 he ran at the Shelby High School Invite last week.
Scarborough made his cross country debut for the Coyotes and immediately made an impact, finishing 30th overall in 20:31.46.
The performances were an encouraging sign for a Shelby team that continues to grow and improve as the season progresses.
The Coyotes will face their largest field of the season next Saturday, September 19, when they travel to Missoula for the Mountain West Classic. Approximately 300 runners are expected in each race, giving Shelby’s athletes an opportunity to compete against a deep and talented field from across the region.
Shelby looks forward to the challenge, the competitive atmosphere, and another opportunity to continue building toward the second half of the season.
Go Coyotes!
