Shelby hosting Honor Band and Honor Choir
On November 28th and 29th Shelby High School will be hosting the 2016 North Central Honor Band and Honor Choir.
These two ensembles comprise of high school students from Music Districts Six and Seven selected through an audition process. Schools represented are: Augusta; Belt Valley; Big Sandy; Box Elder; Browning; Cascade; CJI; Chinook; Choteau; Centerville; Cut Bank; Dutton/Brady; Fairfield; Fort Benton; Great Falls Catholic Central; Harlem; Havre; Highwood; North Star; Power; Shelby; Simms; Sunburst and Valier. More than 125 students will rehearse for a day and a half on Monday and Tuesday in Shelby before holding a concert at 6:30 pm in the Shelby High School Auditorium. The concert is open to the public with a $3.00 admission fee to help offset the expense of the clinicians.
This year’s Honor Choir will be working with Lynn Ryan (Franzen), a Shelby native who teaches choral music in Great Falls. Mrs. Ryan’s choirs have performed across the state and at conferences throughout the Pacific Northwest. The Honor Band is lead by Ronan Band Director, Alicia Lipscomb. Mrs. Lipscomb is in her 15th year at Ronan and 28th year as a music educator. She is the founder of the Mission Valley Band Festival and a director at the U of M Middle School Band Camp. Both directors will not only be sharing their time and talents with these students, but also their love for music.
Shelby High School will be represented in the Honor Choir by Karra Lohr (Soprano II); Joshua Buck (Bass I); Alex Billedeaux (Bass II); and Baylen Moss (Bass II). The Honor Band members from Shelby High School are: Grace Aklestad (Flute); Kelsyn Lohr (Alto Saxophone); Jarod Anderson (French Horn); Maddy Hellinger (Trombone); and Allisa Buck (Percussion).
Sunburst will be represented in the Honor Choir by Haley Koon (Soprano I); Emma Gliko (Soprano II); Jodi Hout (Soprano II); Cierrah Farbo (Alto I); Halee Head (Alto II). Sunburst will be represented in the Honor Band by Desiree Hastings (Percussion).
