Shelby High School

Mission Statement

Part 2: Shelby High/Junior High School Mission Statement and Beliefs

Shelby Senior/Junior High School embarked upon the task of defining its mission and beliefs by engaging in a comprehensive, consensus building process that involved administrators, teachers, classified staff, students, parents, and business and civic leaders.

Teams made-up of administrators, teachers, parents and students were given the task of examining school district, and Senior/Junior High School and community demographic data. Specifically, teams focused on demographic changes in the school and community, the disaggregated analysis of achievement levels of students, and the opinions of students, teachers and parents about the quality of the school based on the NSSE’s Opinion Inventories.

Team members were assigned the duty of analyzing current effective schools educational research in the following areas: 1) frequent monitoring of students, 2) time on task, 3) instructional leadership, 4) home-school relations, 5) school reform, 6) clear and focused mission, 7) opportunity to learn, 8) climate of high expectations, 9) safe and orderly environment

Initial drafts of the mission and belief statements were distributed to correlate team members for review and comment. Feedback was collected by the Clear and Focused Mission Correlate Team and modifications were made based on the suggestions received. The following includes the Mission and Belief Statements derived from several months of deliberations by administrators, teachers, parents and students.
